SUMMARY
The ant genus Strumigenys, with 840 described species distributed worldwide, is most diverse in the tropics.Their great morphological diversity reflects the fact that a number of genera that were historically kept separate have been synonymized with it in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. New publications in the last fifteen years have added approximately 30 valid names to the genus, indicating a crescent, although seemingly slow, rate of new species discovery for this group, and the possibility that more species will be described in the future.
